Designer Jill McDonald has done it again with another exceptionally fun and versatile fabric collection. Her tales of transportation center around a bustling cityscape, with vehicles of all kinds and colors.
We asked
Jill about her inspiration for the collection, and here’s what she told us:
“As a mother of a little boy I love making fun, playful art. My On Track collection was inspired by transportation & the different places it can take you. To the desert, the beach, the mountains, the sea, the sky! I focused on a variety of vehicles to get you from here to there & mixed in some playful coordinates in stripes & grids.”
The
individual 8” blocks can be cut apart and sewn separately or used as running…should
we say rolling?... yardage. Vehicles are also on the move in two other
prints.
The cut-out vehicles can be used in many ways: stuffed individually as toys; appliquéd onto quilts, pillows and clothing; or stuffed and balanced for a wonderful child’s hanging mobile (that is, a plane-train-auto-mobile!).
Well, that’s what we thought of, and Jill had additional ideas:
“I can see a little guy resting his head on the fire truck pillow. I envision the collection being perfect in a toddler’s room (quilt, decorative pillows, fabric bins, garlands.) I can also see pajamas out of the Which Way [arrow] print or a tote bag out of the Traffic Jam [cars] print with a pocket on front of the bag out of the grid pattern. The combinations are endless & it's my hope that this collection inspires customers to travel the possibilities of my new On Track collection!”
Our quilt project, by Heidi Pridemore, is called “Rush Hour” and would be a fun topper for a kid’s bed. The pattern is free on our web site!
