Artist Susy Pilgrim Waters has been drawing flowers all her life. “My mum said I used to talk to flowers. My ancestors were British botanists. I am an illustrator too, and I have my own library of flower images to use for the designing. I am a huge fan of ranunculus and poppy.”
Susy’s
prints for her Always Blooming collection
are incredibly bold and bright, and they are the culmination of a lifetime of
design experience. “I have drawn since I
could hold a pencil. I am a total mixed media person: pencils, hard and soft, inks, gouache, torn
paper, acrylic, canvas, wood, linen, news print, etc.”
She sews a bit, and says she plans to make some “groovy trews” (trousers) with her fabrics. Susy’s collection was very inspiring to the quilters who designed projects for us. Two of them, Janet Mednick and Elizabeth Allocco, used the panel as the centerpiece for their quilts.

We like Susy’s jazzy stripe so much, we asked Heidi Pridemore to design a quilt just to highlight it!
Besides fabric, Susy currently designs scarves, tea towels and even iPhone cases. Susy’s bold designs are nurtured in a calm environment. “I like to work in a space where I can be quiet and be immersed in the work without distractions. My studio is currently our live/work space. I am very practical. I have to juggle my assignments, style and tastes accordingly.”
Favorite pastime when not creating art? “Honestly, being with my husband Keith and with our children Rosey and Jasper, and snuggled with our old dog Tillie.”
Sounds cozy!
